Dr. Giovanni Fazio


SHORT CV

Giovanni Fazio, MD was born in Ragusa on June 11st, 1978. He graduated from secondary school in Scientific Studies with 60 ot 60 at “Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei” in Modica. He received his Medical Degree with 110 out of 110 cum laude at University of Palermo on July 26th, 2002. He became Specialist in Cardiology at the same University on November 30th, 2006. In 2011 he finished his PhD program on Diagnostic science and biomedical technology. He successfully completed a Secondary level Master in Project Management at University of Palermo within the F.I.O.R.I. project.

Dr. Fazio is certified as BLS-D instructor by Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC) and accredited as echocardiographist by the Italian Society of Cardiovascular Echography (SIEC)

He is the Head of the Deparment of Medicine at “Casa di Cure Triolo-Zancla” which includes the following units: internal medicine, cardiology, angiology and long-term care as well as the cardiologist for all these units.

Responsible for the Cardiology specialty at “Poliambulatorio” in Porticello and  “Poliambulatorio Riabiliter” in Palermo.

He also works as both cardiologist and sports medicine physician at many centers and he is member of Italian Federation of Sport Medicine (FMSI). He has gained a considerable experience in Italy and abroad on electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, vascular echocolordoppler, cardiac and pressure Holter, ergometry, myocardial scintigraphy, cardiac magnetic resonance, tilt test, transesophageal electrophysiological studies, and he has performed about 15,000 exams per year.

He is also experienced in pediatric cardiology as certified at Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome.

Dr. Giovanni Fazio is author of approx. 250 scientific publications – being first author in about two third of them – published in 45 different journals such as JACC, Hepatology, Radiology, European Heart Journal, Nature Clinical Practice Cardiovacular Medicine, Heart, with an overall impact factor of 230. He is author of about 300 abstract presented at both National and International conferences and editor of 4 international peer-reviewed journals such as Current Pharmaceutical design and International Journal of Cardiology. He is reviewer of about 30 international scientific journal. Dr. Fazio has been invited several time as presenter and moderator at several National and International conferences. He is also co-author of consensus documents related to cardiomyopathies (Takotsubo and left-ventricular non compaction) and pediatric arrhythmology (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in pediatric patients and congenital forms in adults).

He is member of 10 Scientific societies and of the Task Force of pediatric arrhythmology of the Italian Society AIAC. Dr. Fazio has also organized many conference on cardiology for multiple Italian societies (i.e. SICsport, SICOA, SIC, SIEC). From 2021 professor of Physiopathology and Medical Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine and the degree course in physiotherapy of the Jean Monnet University of Lugano
